PPI-ME Exchange Trip 2016

Last Thursday, 12 of the PPI-CY leaders traveled to the Middle East for a week long exchange with leaders from the Middle East, Northern Ireland and Norway. This Erasmus+ Lead4Peace exchange was the second of four trips between these sites. The focus of the camp was “Call to Action” and developing these young participants into future PeacePlayers coaches.

The majority of Lead4Peace sessions were held at Sdot Yam in Ceasarea, Israel. This beautiful coastal camp facility was the perfect setting for the exchange trip, featuring basketball courts and classrooms for beyond the court trainings. Each of the sites were responsible for developing sessions on leadership skills such as accountability, communication, goal setting and time management.

In addition to these classroom sessions on leadership development, the Middle East exchange also featured the first ever coaching clinics for our young leaders. The coaching clinics covered topics ranging from “how to coach the PPI way” to “positive coaching” to “plan your own practice.” During these sessions, leaders were placed in small mixed groups and given the tools they’ll need to return to their own communities as capable young coaches.

Last but not least, the exchange trip was capped off with an amazing trip to the Dead Sea and some site seeing in Jerusalem. All of the participants jumped at the chance to float in the beautiful Salt Lake with incredible views of Jordan. Many opted for the full “spa treatment” and covered themselves head-to-toe in the mud. Back in Jerusalem, participants embarked on a day long guided tour, covering the Old City and visiting some of the most historical places in the world like the Holy Sepulchre, Western Wall and Temple Mount.

This once in a lifetime opportunity is something none of these young leaders will forget. The friendships and bonds they create become more and more evident after each trip. PPI-CY would like to take the  opportunity to thank the Middle East for hosting! We’d also like to shout out to each of the staff that spent time and effort creating such thoughtful and well-planned sessions! We miss you already and can’t wait to see you in Norway next year!!! ☺
