This past week, PPI-NI began its Leadership Development Program “Developing Identity” course with The Youth Justice Agency of Northern Ireland. “Developing Identity” is a course is focused on perception and understanding diversity within Northern Ireland. Workshops will run over the next 6 weeks with the goal of recruiting young people for the next year of LDP workshops and residentials, beginning in September.
Youth Justice Northern Ireland is an agency supported by the local government that aims to prevent offending by children and young people. Together with PPI-NI, the “Developing Identity” course has been launched to recruit an even stronger and more diverse group of LDP participants next September.
PPI-NI Fellow Will Maloney and Local Coordinator Darryl Petticrew have been heading up the LDP since it began in October 2008. Will thinks this new relationship with Youth Justice is a great example of the continuing evolution of the program. “The group that we have for our ‘Developing Identity’ course comes from a variety of backgrounds and situations. They are really eager to have an opportunity like LDP offered to them and we had a great first session. We have a group of young people with lots of leadership qualities that we are hoping to develop further with LDP. The next few weeks are going to be exciting.”
