Today’s blog is written by PeacePlayers International Fellow Ashley Johnson about her personal experience working with a Moroccan nonprofit organization, TIBU Maroc.
During my time with PeacePlayers, I have seen the sport of basketball change lives and inspire youth in divided communities throughout the world. Two weeks ago I had the opportunity to partner with a similar non-profit organization who shares our same mission and vision in Morocco, TIBU Maroc. TIBU Maroc is a grassroots organization created and led by dynamic young Moroccans who believe in the power of sport, specifically basketball, to educate and inspire.
A few months ago I met Jaber, the Executive Director of Tibu Maroc, while sharing PeacePlayers methods at the United Nations Office of Sport for Development and Peace (UNOSDP) young leaders camp. One of the goals of the UNOSDP camp was to create a platform for exchange between leaders and actors within the field of sport for development. I was inspired by the passion with which Jaber spoke as he shared with me the projects TIBU had already accomplished and the tremendous goals they have for their future. After leaving the camp we remained in contact and Jaber connected me with Amine, TIBU’s president.
A short time later, what began in Switzerland as a discussion, turned into a beginning of a great partnership. After several exchanges between our two organizations, I traveled to Morocco to assist in TIBU Maroc’s 10 day Summer Camp. Over 100 young Moroccans from across the country spent 10 days in the southern town of Agadir. I was touched by the welcome I received from the campers, the staff, and my fellow coaches who came from Morocco, Tunisia and America.
I am inspired daily by the efforts of PeacePlayers and Tibu’s leaders, volunteers and athletes. I look forward to continuing this exchange and partnership, as we each work to inspire and educate generations through the game of basketball.

Bon Continuation! Je vous laisse jusqua notre prochaine rencontre avec le cri….Vous etes pret??? Vous etes pret??? 1…2…3…TIBU!
