PeacePlayers International – Cyprus is happy to announce its selection to the Beyond Sport Awards 2010 shortlist in the category of Sport for Conflict Resolution. PPI – CY was one of 34 shortlisted projects (one of three in the “Sport for Conflict Resolution” category) chosen from over 350 entries from more than 115 countries.
Beyond Sport is a global organization that promotes, develops and funds the use of sport to drive positive social change across the world. The Beyond Sport Awards provide support worth $1 million annually to projects across the world that use sport to address issues within their communities.
PPI – CY will now attend the second annual Beyond Sport Summit, taking place September 27-30, 2010 in Chicago. The Summit boasts an impressive line-up of speakers including: HRH Prince Faisal Al Hussein of Jordan; Rita LeBlanc, the owner of the NFL Super Bowl champions the New Orleans Saints; Jérôme Valcke, FIFA Secretary General; and two-time Women’s World Cup winner and former US soccer captain Julie Foudy.
The Award winners, to be selected by a panel of Beyond Sport “Ambassadors,” will be announced on the final two days of the Summit. Successful projects in the six Beyond Sport Community Awards categories will receive $15,000 each and a substantial package of business support to help them grow and become sustainable in the future.
